Objectives:We compared the efficacy of three dosage regimens of sildenafil citrate in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. The efficacy of the first regimen was not different from that of the second and third, although the clinical efficacy in PAH was different. The third regimen did not produce a difference in the incidence of adverse events. The two-drug regimen (Viagra® and Sildenafil®) produced similar safety results. The incidence of adverse events was similar in the three treatments, but not in the one-drug regimen (P = 0.08). The adverse events in the third treatment were mainly mild, with most being reported as an improvement in the patient's condition.
Methodology:The efficacy of the treatment was compared to a control therapy using sildenafil citrate. Patients were randomized to receive one of three sildenafil citrate dosage regimens. The primary outcome was the incidence of adverse events for the three treatment regimens. The efficacy of the first dosage regimen was compared to the control therapy. The incidence of adverse events in the three treatment regimens was statistically equivalent with a treatment difference of only 0.5%, but no treatment difference was observed for the second and third treatment regimens.
Results:The efficacy of the treatment was not different from that of the control therapy. The incidence of adverse events was similar in the treatment groups using both sildenafil citrate and placebo (2/9, 2.0%). However, the incidence of adverse events was higher in the third treatment group (2/14, 2.5%) than in the placebo group (1/7, 1.8%). The incidence of adverse events was higher in the third treatment group (2/21, 5.3%) than in the placebo group (1/5, 1.4%).
Conclusion:The efficacy of the treatment was comparable to that of the control therapy in patients with PAH. The incidence of adverse events in the treatment groups using both sildenafil citrate and placebo was similar. The incidence of adverse events in the third treatment group was also similar to the control group.
How does sildenafil work? How does it work?Sildenafil belongs to the PDE-5 family of drugs. It works by relaxing blood vessels to increase blood flow, which causes relaxation of the smooth muscle lining of the blood vessels of the pulmonary artery. The relaxation of the smooth muscle of the pulmonary artery causes dilatation of the pulmonary artery and an increase in blood pressure. The result is that the muscles contract and dilate. The increased blood pressure causes the smooth muscle of the blood vessels to relax. The increased blood pressure causes blood to flow back to the lungs.
Sildenafil works by inhibiting the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) enzyme and is a vasodilator. When PDE-5 is inhibited, blood vessels relax, and the smooth muscle in the pulmonary artery relax. When this action is inhibited, blood flows back to the lungs. The increased blood pressure causes the arteries to relax. The relaxation of the arteries results in blood pressure lowering and pulmonary blood flow.
How long does sildenafil stay in your system?Sildenafil can remain in your system for up to three days after oral administration. After that time, the effect of sildenafil can start to be reversed. After this time, the effect of sildenafil on the pulmonary arterial system can be reversed. Sildenafil can be used to treat pulmonary hypertension (PH).
Related studies:The study was designed to investigate the safety of sildenafil in the treatment of PAH. In particular, it was investigated the effects of sildenafil on PAH. Sildenafil is a selective inhibitor of PDE-5. It works by preventing the breakdown of prostaglandin E1, an enzyme that is produced by the liver in PAH. This results in a decreased level of prostaglandin E1 in the blood. Therefore, sildenafil is a safer option for the treatment of PAH.
Can sildenafil be used to treat PAH?Sildenafil is not recommended for use in patients who have mild or moderate PAH. Sildenafil is only indicated in patients with moderate to severe PAH. It should not be used in patients with severe PAH (defined as more than 2 systolic blood pressure, or at least 6.0 mmHg blood pressure).
Viagra has been shown to cause some mild side effects. Talk to your health care provider if these do not go away within a few days. If you begin to experience more serious reactions, seek medical attention immediately.
Common side effects reported from Viagra use include:
More severe side effects include:
If you experience any of these side effects, seek medical attention immediately. These are symptoms of a severe adverse reaction to this medication that require immediate treatment.
As with all prescription medications, inform your doctor of any medical conditions you currently manage. Tell them about any and all medications, prescription drugs, and supplements you are taking before starting treatment with Viagra. Viagra belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. This medication helps enhance blood flow to the penis, resulting in improved erections and successful sexual activity. It does not work if you are not taking a PDE5 inhibitor.
Viagra is not intended for use in women.
Viagra belongs to a drug family called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. This medication works by increasing blood flow to the penis.
Viagra inhibits the PDE5 enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down a substance called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP is an essential component of the blood vessel wall. By causing a drop in blood flow, Viagra allows cGMP to accumulate and in turn, helps improve erectile function.
However, some women may require additional prescription medications to treat erectile dysfunction. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Viagra is safe and effective for treating erectile dysfunction. However, there are certain precautions to consider.
